20 April: When leaving Jennings Lake I was presented with very strong, in-your-face headwinds, and some very long, steep grades to climb. I pulled into Pine Valley pretty early in the day, but decided that it looked like a nice place to stay. I parked in front of the grocery store and got to talking with one of the long-time locals, Rick. After a little bit, I asked him where I might be able to pitch a tent. He suggested that I go across the street and introduce myself to Charlie Chapman, who is on the local community board. It had been 98 degrees today and I must have looked hotter than the number of miles would have indicated. Anyway, Charlie kindly let me pitch the tent behind his real estate office and let me shower inside. A true Christian man. Thanks, Charlie.
